In 2012 we started practicing the ABC with Nicole, our three-year-old daughter. We found the following video on youtube. Nicole loves it and it helps her a lot to learn the German ABC.

The letters are divided in 3 groups:

• Konsonaten = Mitlaute (consonants)
• Vokale = Selbstlaute (vowels)
• Umlaute (umlaute)

Konsonanten	b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z, ß
Vokale	a, e, i, o, u
Umlaute	ä, ö, ü

How to write the "Umlaute" with a none-german keyboard?

Instead of the "Umlaute" and the "ß" you can just write:

• ä = ae
• Ä = Ae
• ö = oe
• Ö = Oe
• u = ue
• Ü = Ue
• ß = ss

Or you use the shortcuts:
