The position of "nicht" in a sentence depends on what you negate. I must admite that's really a bit tricky and needs practice.
1.) "nicht" follows always the verb "sein". |
2.) "nicht" follows the verb of the sentence. |
3.) "nicht" follows a pronoun or an object which can be substituted by a pronoun. |
4.) "nicht" follows the noun in a question. |
5.) "nicht" follows a specific time. |
Special negation with "nicht"
Against all rules "nicht" can be at a completly different position of the sentence, for example at the beginning. |
A last hint
If you have to choose between "nicht" and "kein" in a gap text with negated statements, transform the sentence |
